Focus of the March Destination Unknown Workshop and Co‑Creation: Artificial Intelligence and Digital Platforms

In March, a group of enthusiastic SMEs once again gathered for the Destination Unknown future-oriented training programme. This time, the focus of the co creation and peer-learning workshop was particularly on various artificial intelligence tools and digital platforms connected to the tourism industry, and how they can support innovation in companies’ own business activities.

At the beginning of the day, participants received a comprehensive overview of different ways to utilise AI, as well as guidance on its responsible use. This was followed by a visit to Haaga Helia’s Interaction Laboratory. The laboratory is an innovative research environment where different interaction situations related to a company or its offerings—and the emotional responses arising in those situations—can be examined using emotional AI and psychophysiological measurement. This provides a highly interesting research-based perspective also for exploring new digital and low carbon innovations.

The final theme of the day focused on the development of future sales and marketing. In this context, participants heard an inspiring presentation by expert Joel Packalén. These areas are also closely linked to the development and implementation of digital and low carbon business models. One of the key questions addressed during the workshop was how a digital and low carbon SME can improve its digital discoverability, accessibility and ease of purchase.

As usual, the workshop featured lively discussions among participants around the themes and tools presented. In addition, participants provided feedback and reflected on pilot testing related to the RADINNO tool (an AI assisted tool for business innovation), as well as on the results of these tests. At the end of the day, participants reviewed the homework assignments and the Destination Unknown workbook, which enables companies to continue their own future oriented digital and low carbon development journey independently.
According to participant feedback, the workshop once again offered both valuable new learning and important peer learning in an inspiring atmosphere.
